Bob Holroyd
Bob Holroyd has released his new cd called “RE:lax (re:lax | re:wind | re:think)” on Sep 7, 2009.
Holroyd is an old hand at this genre of music. In fact he is an old hand at ambient/global fusion/chill out music and is top shelf in all of them. Not to mention he is one of my favorite artists.
The new release is a remix of previous music and is in general pretty strong. I
think I like the version of ‘The Sheer Weight of Memory” on the Different Spaces cd better than the remix but most of the time that’s how this type of thing goes. The original is always better because you remember it better. There are two new songs that are world music and not remixes. Plains Song is rather generic in my opinion and doesn’t really create anything new, nor does A New Space.
The version of Light Water is at once compelling, fresh and an improvement over the original I think.
All and all this is an excellent cd. I don’t think it breaks any new ground but merely expands on the composers creativity. Holroyd’s musical quality is always worth having and this cd would serve to be an entry point for new listeners.
The cd is comprised of 10 top quality cuts.
