Mitt Romney has stated that the muslims are burning our flag and terrorizing us all across the region. And he says he wants a president who will control the events in the Middle East, not react to them.
“Bumps in the road?” Mr. Romney asked, as a grumbling murmur rippled through the crowd. “We had an ambassador assassinated. We had a Muslim Brotherhood elect a member, elected to the presidency of Egypt. Twenty thousand people have been killed in Syria. We have tumult in Pakistan, and of course Iran is that much closer to having the capacity to build a nuclear weapon.”
He continued: “These are not bumps in the road, these are human lives — these are developments we do not want to see. This is time for a president who will shape events in the Middle East, not just be merciful or be at mercy of the events of the Middle East.” 1
Sooner or later someone is going to have to ask Candidate Romney how he would prevent the Muslim Brotherhood from being elected in Egypt. Does candidate Romney actually think Obama could have done anything to prevent a Muslim from being elected? Is it the position of Romney to step in and stop democratic elections in a country such as Egypt? Is that the position of the republican party?
Certainly we have lost ambassadorial people in the past. Some of these people live in highly volatile places. But the question here is not how many we have lost, but how did they happen. It is certainly not right that it happens but lets face it, Libya is a place where there is a great deal of both anti and pro American feelings. Could a huge security detail have prevented the rocket attack on the embassy? Would it have been correct to put so many people there?
Even so, while we may question how these things happen, and waste time blaming the current president as some do Reagan for what happened during his term, GWB for the attacks on the green zone in Iraq, and Obama, the true question here is how would Romney have prevented it and how will he shape events in the Middle East. No candidate or president has ever said he could determine what happens over there. Romney has. Will he do an Iran-Contra deal? Protect dictators as we have done for many many years? I do not think Romney cares one whit for the American people as a whole, it would not surprise me to see him sell out people in the Middle East to protect his own reputation as an iron hand.
There is only one way an American can shape events in the middle east. And that is by taking over a country in question, perhaps one that burns our flag and protests against us, and use a large American police force to prevent anything from happening. You cannot change the Middle East by decree’s, by negotiations, by being dominating over the leaders of those country’s because those leaders either have no control over their own radical elements or privately support the protests. What do you do with leaders like that Mitt? Imprison them here in the states?
Tragically over 20,000 have died in Syria. People who are searching for their freedom or just a change in Muslim leadership. My own personal opinion there is, NATO went against Libya, why not Syria? I ask myself why is it solely the responsibility of the US to attack and take Assad out of power? It comes down to we try to empower people to have freedom in this world, which is the right thing to do, and also the fact that the people of the US have to pay for it. Personally I do not want to pay for all of it. This is a world problem not a US problem. Romney would have us at war in Iran and in Syria. While supposedly lowering taxes and fighting more wars ala General G.W.Bush.
Lets face it, no country in the Middle East who wants their freedom from a dictator will elect anyone other than a Muslim. If Iran gets rid of the current clown in chief, they will still have a Muslim(s) in charge. What will Romney do about that? Or will he suddenly turn into something “else” when he is in the Oval Office? Will the American chrstian fundies approve of a lack of war in the Middle East to protect Israel? Will his own religion approve of him not pushing his own beliefs across the world?
This is all coming from a man who says he will shape events across the broad spectrum of the Middle East and who has exactly zero knowledge of foreign affairs. And has taken great delight in proving it over and over.
I give you his comments on the Embassy tragedy in Libya as proof.
I also believe the administration was wrong to stand by a statement sympathizing with those who had breached our embassy in Egypt, instead of condemning their actions. It’s never too early for the United States government to condemn attacks on Americans and to defend our values. 2
This was a lie, and a statement politicizing the event. Obama never stood by a statement sympathizing with the people who attacked the embassy. Romney would never admit that the statement put out by the embassy in Libya was meant to diffuse what was about to happen in Libya. This was totally dishonest on his part and shows us what kind of values he has. If this is the value system Mitt Romney has, then he is a man who should never come near the Whitehouse even as a guest.
We cannot let these things just go by and wait for his next gaffe on anything. This and other mistakes on Romney’s part Must be remembered and accounted for on November 6th.
